Welcome to Korean Women¡¯s Development Institute.

Established in 1983, Korean Women¡¯s Development Institute (KWDI) is a leading research institute for gender policy in Korea. We have expertise in policy areas such as women¡¯s economic participation, human rights and political representation. We contribute to gender-responsive law and institution building by providing information, statistics and policy recommendations to legislators, concerned ministries and interested individuals. Successful interventions include proportional representation of women in the National Assembly, gender equity in employment at public universities, gender budgeting of public expenditure, gender impact assessment of public policy, and sex-disintegrated statistics building. We are also devoting much of our research capacity to policy development for work-family balance, longitudinal survey of women and family, and building a women¡¯s archive.

In May 2007, KWDI transformed itself from a comprehensive women¡¯s institution to a think-tank dedicated to gender policy development. We are committed to gender equality of the country and women¡¯s empowerment in this fast-evolving globalized society. At the same time, we endeavor to improve the quality of our research outcomes and customer satisfaction and further strengthen our research expertise in gender mainstreaming.

Our research effectively reflects government initiatives. Major areas of research for the year 2009 include women¡¯s empowerment and business creation, women¡¯s human rights protection, gender mainstreaming of public institutions, and work-family balance.

We believe in a gender-equal society and will keep working toward one, where every woman and man can lead a happy and equal life. We appreciate your continued interests. Thank you.
